Studies carried out in the US show that the income of a neighbourhood is related to the tree cover there. The neighbourhoods with cooler temperatures were the ones with maximum tree cover and high incomes. The article also mentions the health benefits of trees like longer life spans, lower levels of stress, better air quality and lower rates of cardiac disease. Taking the case of Louisville, where the studies were carried out initially, the researchers also discuss the maintenance and care of these trees, and the funds required for that. Oftentimes it is difficult to raise funds for the aftercare of trees planted. The government bodies still encourage people to plant more trees and also look after them for the betterment of their own neighbourhoods.
